Ghibli or Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation film studio, and previously was a subsidiary of Tokuma Shoten. It is a kind of realistic Anime that is often mistaken by many people, Anime-fans and not, as Childish kiddy Anime, which is highly untrue. Its provocative and emotional anime films are widely praised all over the world. The company's logo features the character Totoro from the film My Neighbor Totoro.

Over the years, there has been a close relationship between Studio Ghibli and the magazine Animage, which regularly runs exclusive articles about the studio and its members in a section titled "Ghibli Notes." Artwork from Ghibli's films and other works frequently graces the cover of the magazine.

The most famous and lauded film from the studio that was not directed by Miyazaki is Grave of the Fireflies, directed by Isao Takahata, a sad film focusing on the lives of two war orphans towards the end of Second World War in Japan. Tokuma is the parent company of Studio Ghibli, and has provided Disney with the video rights to eight of the films and global distribution rights to Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Miyazaki's latest film, Howl's Moving Castle.

An individual who outwardly gives the impression of lux and wealth but who is actually cheap and hollow at heart.

This term is an allusion to the Maserati Ghibli, an automobile that seems high class because of its branding but actually has a very cheap quality interior for its price level.
Simon wears very expensive clothing to cover up his lack of likeable personality. What a Ghibli!

STUDIO GHIBLI: INTRODUCTION

The greatest mainstream animation studio of our generation, headed by the greatest animator of our time, Hayao Miyazaki.

Has consistently produced works that all uphold the studio's foundation of creative artistry and story-telling.
Unfortunately, it is shadowed by the American powerhouses Pixar/Disney, who have mastered the art of creating family-friendly films and entertainment, but nonetheless lack an emotional/narrative appeal.

FOCUS ON ART/NARRATIVE, NOT MASS-APPEAL

Studio Ghibli is dedicated purely to the arts and narrative behind each story. It is known for its sentimental appeal and beautiful traditional animation, not focusing on entertainment.

WHERE HAS THE MAGIC GONE....

Studio Ghibli can only be summed up as the place where the only real bit of magic has moved, after the downfall of the "magic" of Disney into the 2000's.

The magic of a pencil, not a computer, the beauty of a well-crafted story, and the sacredness of art above mass-appeal, this is what Studio Ghibli believes in.

Studio Ghibli is magic.
Pixar:

beautiful computer animation
family-centered
mass appeal
masterful money generator/Oscar nabber

lack of meaningful themes or remembrance of film

Disney:

owns Pixar now
famed for beautiful animation, but since long gone

Studio Ghibli:

-dedicated to art, not entertainment
-known for themes like individualism, environmentalism, feminism, friendship, etc., rather than exclusively love
-known for powerful narrative/story-telling, not entertainment

A thing that's said when a character has a very mild reaction to something that is weird/unusual.

The phrase "Only in a Ghibli movie" is from the Nostalgia Critic in his review of Ponyo.
*Water has eyes and then disappears*
character: That was weird.
Person watching the movie: Only in a Ghibli movie...
